H.R. No. 1442 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The Texas Capitol is hosting a compelling exhibit of children's art from April 18 through 22, 2011, that depicts the work of those who participated in the Service Learning Adventures in North Texas 45 initiative; and WHEREAS, Founded in partnership with the North Texas Super Bowl XLV Host Committee and the nonprofit organization Big Thought, SLANT 45 was designed to inspire children to create and implement service projects and improve their communities; and WHEREAS, This laudable program, which is named for a football play used by the Dallas Cowboys, ultimately involved more than 44,000 youth, who completed over 445,000 hours of service throughout the region; representing 33 area school districts and more than 50 North Texas cities, these dedicated young people undertook a vast array of worthwhile projects, from providing computer literacy instruction to seniors, to establishing an anti-bullying program, to developing a school health fair and more; children involved in the project also served as the impetus behind the SLANT 45 Community Heroes Touring Art Exhibition, which was featured in several prominent locations throughout the Metroplex before coming to Austin; and WHEREAS, By participating in this remarkable endeavor, thousands of children have learned the value of teamwork and civic engagement, and their experiences have helped to awaken in them the joy inherent in helping others; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby commend the Service Learning Adventures in North Texas 45 initiative for promoting community service among young people and commend all those who took part in the endeavor on a job well done; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for SLANT 45 as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
