 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Gail Green of Tyler retired from public service in
 January 2011, having served two United States senators over the
 course of a distinguished career that spanned 20 years; and
 WHEREAS, In 1991, Ms. Green began working for Senator Phil
 Gramm in Tyler as the executive secretary for the state director and
 regional director; she compiled information from other regional
 offices and prepared briefing papers, and her myriad duties also
 included answering phones and maintaining the "antique" office
 equipment; after Senator John Cornyn succeeded Senator Gramm, she
 was promoted to regional director for 35 East Texas counties; and
 WHEREAS, Ms. Green served both senators with great dedication
 and skill, and she was unfailingly gracious and responsive in
 working with citizens and hundreds of community leaders and public
 officials; among numerous contributions, she provided invaluable
 assistance in the wake of the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster and in
 recovery efforts following Hurricanes Katrina and Rita; and
 WHEREAS, Born in Atlanta, Texas, Ms. Green grew up in Cass
 County and was educated in the Linden-Kildare school system; she
 attended East Texas Baptist University and then married her high
 school sweetheart, Ron Green, and moved to College Station; after
 completing her PHT ("Pushing Hubby Through") degree at Texas A&M
 University, she devoted herself to raising her daughter, Melissa,
 and son, Jason; she eventually reentered the workforce to help with
 their college expenses; and
 WHEREAS, This dynamic Texan is a valued member of Central
 Baptist Church in Tyler; in her leisure time, she enjoys camping,
 cooking, gardening, and entering bass fishing tournaments with her
 husband of 39 years; her retirement will allow her more time to
 pursue these activities, to volunteer, and to share the company of a
 family that has grown to include her daughter-in-law, Betsy, and
 her treasured grandson, Vaughn; and
 WHEREAS, Through her deep commitment to public service, Gail
 Green made a positive difference in East Texas and beyond, and she
 may indeed take pride in her accomplishments; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
 Legislature hereby recognize Gail Green for her service to United
 States Senators Phil Gramm and John Cornyn and extend to her sincere
 best wishes as she begins the next exciting chapter in her life;
 and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Ms. Green as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
