 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Dr. Theron Karman Weatherby, an admired San Angelo
 physician, passed away on March 11, 2010, at the age of 69; and
 WHEREAS, Born in San Angelo on March 9, 1941, to Roberta and
 Theron Weatherby, Karman Weatherby excelled in sports as a youth,
 earning All-State honors in football, basketball, and track, and he
 was also a participant in 4H and an Eagle Scout; he and his
 classmate and future wife, Carolyn Hye Becknell, were selected Mr.
 and Miss Reagan County High School, and the two were married on
 January 16, 1959, in Ciudad Acuna, Mexico; and
 WHEREAS, The couple lived in Austin while Dr. Weatherby
 attended The University of Texas, and after three years moved to
 Dallas, where he attended UT Southwestern Medical School; working
 nights at Dallas city and county jails and Parkland Hospital, he
 took classes during the day; and
 WHEREAS, Dr. Weatherby served his country in the United
 States Army and in 1969 was deployed to Vietnam, where he supervised
 a medical unit; named base commander, he attained the rank of major
 and earned a Purple Heart; and
 WHEREAS, Following his military service, Dr. Weatherby
 completed his residency and vascular surgery fellowship in Dallas;
 he subsequently returned to his hometown of San Angelo to practice
 medicine, and through the years, he served as chief of staff at all
 three area hospitals; Dr. Weatherby's other business interests
 included real estate and oil and gas, and he served on the board of
 the First National Bank of Mertzon, was active in the Tom Green
 County Medical Society, and was a fellow in the American College of
 Surgeons; and
 WHEREAS, A man of faith, he was a member of the First United
 Methodist Church of San Angelo and of the Emmaus Community; Dr.
 Weatherby was also a longtime supporter of the Tom Green County Fair
 and Livestock Show Association, and in 1994 the organization
 dedicated the fair to him; in addition, he was passionate about
 music, sports, and antique maps, and he liked to hunt and to spend
 time outdoors; and
 WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Dr. Weatherby enjoyed the
 love and support of his wife of 51 years, Carolyn, and the couple
 restored a 100-year-old cabin together; moreover, he took great
 pride in their four children, Tim, Jay, Amy, and Kristin, and in
 their 10 grandchildren; and
 WHEREAS, A highly respected medical professional who touched
 numerous lives, Karman Weatherby was a devoted family man and a
 beloved figure in San Angelo, and he leaves behind many fond
 memories that his loved ones will forever treasure; now, therefore,
 be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Dr. Theron Karman
 Weatherby and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family:
 to his wife, Carolyn Weatherby; to his children, Tim Weatherby, Jay
 Weatherby and his wife, Jana, Amy Hendrick and her husband, Cal, and
 Kristin Valicek and her husband, Ed; to his grandchildren, Drew,
 Scott, Allie, Ben, and Caroline Weatherby, Hunter and Kaitlin
 Hendrick, and Alex, Annie, and Emily Valicek; to his sister, Kay
 Ellis; to his sisters-in-law, Jo Weatherby, Becky Becknell, and Ann
 Way and her husband, Ralph; and to his other relatives and friends;
 and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Karman
 Weatherby.
