H.R. No. 1566
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The 121st annual Brenham Maifest is being held May
1-7, 2011, and this spirited event promises great fun for all who
attend; and
WHEREAS, One of the oldest spring German festivals in the
South, Maifest is a community-wide celebration that highlights the
rich heritage of Brenham and Washington County; and
WHEREAS, In addition to a parade and festival, the event
features a coronation of junior and senior kings and queens; this
year's royal court includes junior queen Savannah Bartay; the
daughter of Lea and Ron Bartay, she is in the fourth grade at
Brenham Elementary School and is active in her studies and a number
of sports, including softball, soccer, swimming, and volleyball;
and
WHEREAS, The 2011 junior king is Britt Rogas; a third-grader
at St. Paul's Christian Day School, he is the son of Amey and
Russell Rogas; in his free time, he participates in Little League
baseball, Cub Scouts, and 4-H; and
WHEREAS, The senior queen is Corrie Newman, the daughter of
Betsy and Jerry Newman; this Brenham High School senior enjoys
cheerleading, volunteering in the community, studying dance and
voice, and serving as a liturgist at Brenham Presbyterian Church;
and
WHEREAS, Guy Buls, the son of Paula and Rick Buls, is the
senior king; a junior at Brenham High, he is an all-star swimmer on
the swim team and an active member of the Young Life program and the
youth group at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church; and
WHEREAS, These outstanding young Texans, along with all those
associated with Maifest, can take pride in their participation in
an enduring Washington County tradition that provides many hours of
enjoyment for Brenham residents and visitors alike; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
Legislature hereby commemorate the 121st annual Brenham Maifest and
honor the junior and senior royalty of this much-anticipated event;
and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the 2011 Maifest royalty as an expression of high
regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
