H.R. No. 1642 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, On May 13, 2011, James N. Austin, Jr., of Fort Worth is celebrating his 60th birthday and 30th year in the real estate industry at a roast benefiting the National Multicultural Western Heritage Museum; and WHEREAS, Jim Austin graduated from Howard University in 1976; he founded Austin Company Commercial Real Estate just five years later, and Jim Austin Online in 2008; considered an expert in the commercial real estate field, he has moved from the standard sales and leasing work into appraisals and auction management; he served on the Texas Real Estate Commission for eight years and has also been an active member on a number of other noteworthy boards and commissions, including several appointed by the courts and sponsored by the Texas Department of Transportation; he is a past president of the Commercial Investment Division of the Greater Fort Worth Association of Realtors; and WHEREAS, This dynamic Texan cofounded the Renaissance Cultural Center in 1991 to provide programs that encourage pride, cultural diversity, and the pursuit of higher education; he has led fund-raising efforts for the center's scholarship program, which has awarded more than $400,000 to Tarrant County high school seniors over the past 15 years; together with his wife, Gloria Reed Austin, he established the National Multicultural Western Heritage Museum, which highlights the achievements of minorities; and WHEREAS, Taking on numerous leadership roles, Mr. Austin has served on the boards of Harris Methodist Health Foundation, Tarrant County 9-1-1, the Tarrant County Martin Luther King, Jr., Holiday Committee, and the American Paint Horse Foundation, among other organizations; he is a member of the Downtown Fort Worth International Rotary Club, the Citizens Crime Commission, and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated; in 2003, Realtor Magazine recognized Mr. Austin for his community service with its Good Neighbor Award, and he is also the recipient of such well-deserved accolades as the Quest for Success Award and the Metroplex Black Image Award; and WHEREAS, Jim Austin has distinguished himself in his profession and has greatly benefited his community through his endeavors, and it is indeed fitting to recognize his contributions as he marks a memorable milestone in his life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby congratulate James N. Austin, Jr., on the occasion of his 60th birthday and recognize him for his distinguished career and community service; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Austin as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
