H.R. No. 1722 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The certain knowledge of a life well lived may temper the profound sadness felt at the passing of Mary Ruth Galloway of Waco, who died on February 21, 2011, at the age of 90; and WHEREAS, Born in Waco on July 20, 1920, Mary Galloway was a graduate of Waco High School; she and her husband-to-be, Harold Galloway, began to consider marriage while he was serving in the United States Army Air Forces during World War II, and they exchanged vows in 1944, while he was on a brief leave from his assignment in England; and WHEREAS, After the war, they focused on raising their two children even as Mr. Galloway's military career kept the family on the move; they lived in California, Brooklyn, and Washington, D.C., before settling permanently in Waco when he retired; the couple shared 43 rewarding years together before his passing in 1987; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Galloway took a deep interest in the world around her; a dedicated traveler, she made numerous trips abroad, visiting the British Isles, Ireland, and Australia; in addition, she was a supporter and follower of the arts, attending many local theater, music, and cultural events, and she volunteered her time to assist organizations such as the Strecker Museum, the Red Cross, and Meals on Wheels, while also working as an election judge for many years; and WHEREAS, Known for her love of life and her ability to connect with everyone she met, Mary Galloway touched the lives of many people with her empathy and generosity of spirit; she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and she will forever hold a treasured place in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known her; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Mary Ruth Galloway and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her son, Bill Galloway; to her daughter, Ruby Smith; to her brother, Ed Boles; and to her other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Mary Ruth Galloway.
