R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Ellen Negrete of Polk Elementary School in El Paso
has been named the Region 19 Nurse of the Year by the Texas School
Nurses Organization; and
WHEREAS, A nurse at Polk Elementary for 18 years, Ellen
Negrete was chosen from an education service center region that
covers schools in El Paso and Hudspeth Counties; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Negrete earned her nursing degree from Marillac
College, a Catholic sisters' school in Missouri; a nun for 11 years,
she moved to El Paso in 1973 to work at Hotel Dieu, a Catholic
hospital; and
WHEREAS, Affectionately known as "Nursie Pooh" to her
students, Ms. Negrete helps with everything from tending to a minor
scrape to teaching children how to manage chronic conditions such
as diabetes or asthma; she is also responsible for a variety of
medical screenings and health education programs; she works with
parents as well as students, and staff members regularly come to her
for advice; trusted by the children in her charge, Ms. Negrete is
described as skilled, empathetic, and compassionate; and
WHEREAS, This caring medical professional has demonstrated
exceptional dedication to the health and safety of Polk Elementary
School students, and she is truly deserving of this prestigious
honor; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Ellen Negrete on being named the
Region 19 Nurse of the Year by the Texas School Nurses Organization
and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be
it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Ms. Negrete as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
