H.R. No. 1915 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Charles Pickitt, the principal of Richardson High School, has been named a regional finalist in the Principal Award category of the 2011 H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards; and WHEREAS, Created to celebrate the contributions of public school professionals, the H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards is the largest monetary recognition program for educators in Texas and one of the largest in the nation, distributing more than $600,000 annually; and WHEREAS, Mr. Pickitt's outstanding tenure with the RISD spans more than four decades; shortly after graduating from East Texas State University in 1970 with a bachelor's degree in political science and English, he joined the staff at Richardson Junior High as a teacher and coach; desiring to advance his career, he continued his education at North Texas State University, earning a master's degree in public school administration in 1979; two years later he was named assistant principal at Richardson North Junior High School, and he subsequently held that same position at RJH and at Berkner High School before returning to RNJH as principal in 1995; and WHEREAS, In 2005, Mr. Pickitt was appointed principal of Richardson High School, which presently has an enrollment of approximately 2,400; under his leadership, RHS has maintained a high standard of excellence and has received a number of honors, including an Exemplary rating and a Gold Performance acknowledgment from the Texas Education Agency in 2010; moreover, in 2007 it was recognized as a Best Practices High School for Math and Science by the Texas Public Policy Foundation, and in 2006 it was one of only three high schools in Texas to be honored as a Best Practices School by the National Center for Educational Accountability; the school's accomplishments significantly contributed to the Richardson Independent School District's winning the 2007 H-E-B Excellence in Education Award for a large school district, a $100,000 prize; and WHEREAS, Throughout his years of service as an administrator, Charles Pickitt has inspired countless individuals with his passion for education, and he has demonstrated an exceptional ability to motivate, mentor, and provide leadership to his school, faculty, and students; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Charles Pickitt on his selection as a regional finalist for the 2011 H-E-B Excellence in Education Principal Award and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Pickitt as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
