 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, A full and generous life came to an end with the
 death of Louvelle Chafin of Houston on October 20, 2009, at the age
 of 83; and
 WHEREAS, Born in El Campo on February 9, 1926, to James
 Lockhart and Dora Frazier Perry, the former Louvelle Lockhart
 attended a one-room school in Markham through the 12th grade;
 during World War II, she helped the quartermaster at Camp Hulen
 distribute uniforms and boots to the soldiers, and she was a popular
 dancer at the USO in Palacios, where she became known as "the
 Jitterbug Queen"; and
 WHEREAS, In 1951, she was joined in matrimony to Norman
 Chafin, and they shared a fulfilling relationship until his death
 in 1976; together they were blessed with three children, Glinda,
 Jim, and Gus; and
 WHEREAS, Mrs. Chafin began working at Santa Fe Art Supply in
 1956, and she stayed on with the company after it was acquired by
 CMI Moulding in Houston; a loyal and invaluable employee, she
 continued to work as the business's bookkeeper until six weeks
 before her death; and
 WHEREAS, In 1964, Mrs. Chafin was active in the campaign of
 presidential candidate Barry Goldwater, initiating a lifelong
 participation in Republican politics; she attended several
 national conventions, and she served as the Republican chair of
 Precinct 117 in Houston for 25 years; and
 WHEREAS, A devoted mother and grandmother, Louvelle Chafin
 leaves behind a legacy of hard work and civic engagement that
 continues to inspire all those who knew and loved her; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Louvelle Chafin and
 extend sincere condolences to the members of her family: to her
 children, Glinda Shipley and her husband, Ben, Jim Chafin, and Gus
 Chafin and his wife, Sookie; to her sister, Lorraine Smith; to her
 grandchildren, Kyllion and his wife, Tammy, Amy, and Alexander; to
 her great-grandson, Dylon; and to her other relatives and friends;
 and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Louvelle
 Chafin.
