 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, A. Cynthia Leon of Mission was sworn in on May 3,
 2011, as the newest member of the Texas Public Safety Commission,
 the board that oversees all activities of the Texas Department of
 Public Safety; and
 WHEREAS, Appointed by Governor Rick Perry, Cindy Leon is a
 longtime resident of Mission and will serve as the panel's voice on
 the border region; her five-year term will expire on January 1,
 2016; and
 WHEREAS, Ms. Leon earned her bachelor's degree from Austin
 College and her master's degree in public administration from the
 University of Colorado at Boulder; she is also a graduate of the
 Federal Executive Institute in Virginia; and
 WHEREAS, A career public servant, Ms. Leon worked for the
 U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for 36 years; she
 was appointed by President George W. Bush as the HUD regional
 director of the zone that includes Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana,
 Arkansas, and New Mexico and served in that position for seven
 years, until her retirement in 2009; and
 WHEREAS, Ms. Leon has further distinguished herself as a
 captain in the U.S. Navy Reserve, and she is a lifetime member of
 the Naval Reserve Association, the Navy League, the U.S. Naval
 Institute, and the Reserve Officers Association; she is also active
 with the International Women's Forum and Leadership Texas, and she
 previously served as chair of the Dallas-Fort Worth and San Antonio
 Federal Executive Boards; and
 WHEREAS, Cindy Leon brings to her new position decades of
 government experience and important insight into the issues
 affecting the security of Texas, making her an outstanding choice
 for this vital leadership role; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate A. Cynthia Leon on her swearing in
 as a member of the Texas Public Safety Commission and extend to her
 sincere best wishes for success; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Ms. Leon as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
