H.R. No. 2023 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Michael W. Ashley of Houston is being inducted into the Prairie View Interscholastic League Coaches Association Hall of Fame at the association's annual fund-raising banquet on July 23, 2011; and WHEREAS, An outstanding athlete from an early age, Mr. Ashley was a star football player for Kashmere High School; between 1958 and 1962, he earned awards as an all-city, all-district, and all-state halfback; he was named most valuable player at the city and district championships in 1961, and in 2008, he was inducted into the Kashmere Gardens Football Hall of Fame; and WHEREAS, Mr. Ashley went on to attend Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Texas Southern University; a businessman in Houston since 1968, he is the owner of Mr. A's The Club, and he is a former member of the advisory board of the Kashmere Gardens Community Development Corporation; and WHEREAS, Throughout his endeavors, Mr. Ashley has enjoyed the love and support of his wife, Mattie Rodgers Ashley, and his sons, Dewayne, Keith, and Kenneth, and he is devoted to his grandchildren, Meghan, Michael, Ashley, Kyle, and Taylor, and his great-grandson, Quinton, as well as to his mother, Mrs. Cleo Ashley, who is celebrating her 100th birthday on May 20, 2011; and WHEREAS, The achievements of Michael Ashley on the football field continue to inspire his family, friends, and fellow alumni of Kashmere High School, and he is indeed deserving of special recognition; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Michael W. Ashley on his induction into the Prairie View Interscholastic League Coaches Association Hall of Fame and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Ashley as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
