H.R. No. 2033 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, George and Mary Virginia Holekamp of Kerrville observed a special milestone in their lives with the celebration of their 60th wedding anniversary on May 5, 2011; and WHEREAS, Although they both graduated from Tivy High School in 1944, George Allen Holekamp and the former Mary Virginia Stevens did not meet until several years later; they began their courtship while Ms. Stevens was attending The University of Texas, and their romance continued after she graduated and moved to Dallas to work as a chemist; whenever he could find a free moment away from his farm on Fall Creek near Kerrville, Mr. Holekamp would drive to Dallas to visit Ms. Stevens; and WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Holekamp were joined in matrimony in 1951 at a ceremony held at the Presbyterian Church in Harper; over the years, they have been blessed with a treasured family that includes 5 children, as well as 12 grandchildren; and WHEREAS, Lifelong stewards of the land, Mr. and Mrs. Holekamp were taught how to farm and ranch by their parents at an early age, and they continue to raise cattle and harvest hay in the Kerrville area; in 2004, the couple were honored with the Family Land Heritage 100 Year Award from the Texas Department of Agriculture; and WHEREAS, Mr. Holekamp has held a seat on the Natural Resources Conservation Service Board of Directors for more than 50 years, and he also presently chairs the board of directors of the Kerr County Soil and Water Conservation District; in addition, he is a past president and founding member of the Hill Country District Livestock Show Association; throughout his life, he has dedicated himself to using the most progressive farming techniques in an effort to improve the land and conserve water; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Holekamp formerly served on the board of directors for the Upper Guadalupe River Authority, and she was a member of the Tivy Elementary PTA from 1959 to 1980; politically active, she has helped promote candidates for office who support responsible government and free enterprise and who understand the importance of the agricultural industry to the nation's economy; and WHEREAS, The 60 years of marriage that Mr. and Mrs. Holekamp have shared is eloquent affirmation of the meaning of love and commitment, and their enduring union is an inspiration to all who know them; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby congratulate George and Mary Virginia Holekamp on their 60th wedding anniversary and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Holekamp as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
