No. 2058 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, On Memorial Day 2011, area residents are gathering in Fulshear to demonstrate their profound respect and admiration for the United States armed forces at Fort Bend Salutes America; and WHEREAS, This patriotic event honors past and present members of our nation's military, and it encourages citizens to support those who are currently serving abroad through donations of needed items to the Houston Marine Moms; and WHEREAS, In a tradition dating back more than a century, the last Monday of May each year is set aside as a time to remember the contributions of the men and women who have stepped forward to serve their country; this occasion resonates with special meaning in an era that finds our nation engaged in conflicts on other shores; many of today's warriors know what it means to lose a friend too soon, and all of our service members and their families understand the true meaning of sacrifice; and WHEREAS, While the heroes who risk their lives defending our freedom and values are in our thoughts each day, the observance of Memorial Day represents a very special opportunity to unite in a spirit of gratitude and remembrance and to solemnly reflect on a debt that can never be repaid; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby commemorate the Fort Bend Salutes America Memorial Day event and extend to all the members of the nation's armed services deep appreciation for their courageous efforts in our country's behalf.
