H.R. No. 2068 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Members of the Irving Heritage Society and the local community are gathering on May 22, 2011, to celebrate the dedication of a historical marker at the Heritage Park depot; and WHEREAS, The expansion of the Rock Island Railroad played a vital role in Irving's development, and a rail depot was one of the first buildings established in the town; though the original is no longer standing, the Heritage Society worked to acquire and restore a similar structure, which served as the station for the cities of Clinton and Nevada during the late 1890s and early 1900s; and WHEREAS, Located in Heritage Park, the facility was dedicated in memory of Irving's early settlers in November 1988; the initiative was made possible in part by the efforts of Pete Fernandez, Carol Susat, Marge Parrish, George Edwin, Peggy Duvall, Donald Peck, Catherine Schulze, Robert Sale, Earle Ayles, Jim Dunkley, Jim and May Tom Ripp, and Billie Myers; and WHEREAS, Today, the Heritage Park depot is a popular local attraction for residents and visitors alike, and the placement of a historical marker will help to preserve Irving's rich history as a railroad town; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby commemorate the dedication of the historical marker at the Heritage Park depot and commend the members of the Irving Heritage Society for bringing this project to fruition; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the group as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
