H.R. No. 21 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Soccer coach Reynaldo Lopez was named the 2009 Coach of the Year by NTSA-USA, and this award provides fitting recognition for his notable accomplishments in the sport; and WHEREAS, Mr. Lopez began his lifelong affiliation with the game at the age of five in his native Bolivia; before turning professional, he played youth soccer for the Lower Cadettes squad of Club Bolivar, one of his native country's best-known teams, and he was also a member of the Bolivian national squad; he came to the United States and played collegiately for the University of South Carolina and Long Island University; and WHEREAS, When his playing days ended, Mr. Lopez transitioned to coaching, beginning with soccer clinics on Long Island in 1990; in the intervening two decades, he has instructed thousands of youngsters in the fine points of the game, specializing in teaching the Brazilian and Bolivian styles of the sport; and WHEREAS, He joined the North Texas Strikers Soccer Club Academy in 1998 and is currently its head coach and director; he is also coach, director, and president of the Stars Soccer Academy and a member of the coaching staff of the Adidas Academy Sports Camps; in addition, he serves as the director of after-school soccer programs for the Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas; and WHEREAS, Exceptional coaches inspire athletes to perform at the peak of their abilities, and Reynaldo Lopez's commitment to excellence indeed makes him an admirable role model and leader; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby commend Reynaldo Lopez on his selection as the 2009 NTSA-USA Coach of the Year and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Lopez as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
