H.R. No. 2118 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, September 15, 2011, marks the 60th wedding anniversary of J. O. and Nancy Duncan of Austin, and this joyous event provides a fitting opportunity to reflect on their memorable journey together as husband and wife; and WHEREAS, Julius Ottis Duncan, Jr., and the former Nancy Lee Masden were joined in matrimony in 1951 at a ceremony held at the Harris Memorial Chapel of University Methodist Church in Austin; through the years, they have been blessed with a treasured family that includes four children and their spouses, Howard and Cindy Duncan, Donna and Steve Hager, Janet and David Sien, and Suzanne and Lee Frilot, as well as 16 grandchildren, Charlie, Christopher, Stephen, and Gabriel Duncan, Joshua Duncan and his wife, Jennifer, Sarah Donaldson, Rachel Russell and her husband, Robert, Kristin Buholtz and her husband, Dan, Collin and Cory Hager, Elizabeth, Bryn, and Blake Baggett, Jason O'Neill and his wife, Kasha, Carson O'Neill and his wife, Samantha, and Andrew O'Neill and his wife, Jessica, and 14 great-grandchildren, Kayla, Noah, Michael, Anton, Julius, Toby, Uriah, Jaxon, Preston, Peyton, Hayden, Calan, Cash, and Masden; and WHEREAS, A highly decorated World War II and Korean War veteran, the Honorable J. O. Duncan also served in the 52nd Texas Legislature representing Upshur County; since retiring from a notable career in the insurance industry in the 1980s, he has remained an active, engaged member of his community; he belongs to the Veterans of Foreign Wars and served as Grand Master for the State of Texas of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and Rebekahs, during which time he was instrumental in the development of a retirement living center in Oak Cliff; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Duncan was employed by the State Treasury Department and also worked as a bookkeeper at a Dallas bank before becoming a full-time homemaker following the birth of the couple's first child; after her children were raised, she began a career of more than two decades with Walgreens that continues to this day; her interest in breeding and training Shetland Sheepdogs led to her involvement with the Dallas Shetland Sheepdog Club, in which she held every board position, including president, and many of the dogs she trained went on to become champions; and WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Duncan were very involved in their children's activities as they grew up, and today they continue to be loving and supportive grandparents and great-grandparents, never missing a special occasion or event; in addition to spending time with their family, the Duncans enjoy hiking, camping, and walking their beloved Welsh Corgi, Cody; and WHEREAS, The 60 years of marriage that Mr. and Mrs. Duncan have shared is eloquent affirmation of the meaning of love and commitment, and their enduring union is an inspiration to all who know them; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby congratulate J. O. and Nancy Duncan on their 60th wedding anniversary and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Duncan as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
