H.R. No. 2149 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Thomas Dunn of Boy Scouts of America Troop No. 61 in Austin has attained the rank of Eagle Scout, and this accomplishment truly merits special recognition; and WHEREAS, Receiving the Eagle Scout badge is a significant honor, bestowed on only a small fraction of those who enter the scouting movement; in the course of meeting the rank's demanding criteria, Mr. Dunn earned the requisite 21 merit badges and successfully completed an Eagle Scout project that consisted of the construction of a stairway and planting a tree on the grounds of Joe Dan Mills Elementary School; the stairway, called "Stence's Steps," is dedicated to the memory of Ron Stence, a beloved former scout leader and volunteer at Mills; and WHEREAS, The son of Penny and Chris Dunn, Mr. Dunn is a sophomore at Bowie High School, where he plays on the baseball and football teams; he also enjoys weightlifting and hiking, has been a member of the National Junior Honor Society, and has volunteered as a mentor, tutor, and science fair judge; and WHEREAS, This fine young Texan has demonstrated outstanding leadership ability throughout his scouting career, winning the respect and admiration of his fellow scouts as he worked toward the highest rank that scouting offers and serving his troop in such positions as senior patrol leader, chaplain's aide, historian, librarian, and quartermaster; and WHEREAS, Eagle Scout Dunn's dedication to excellence and his perseverance in the pursuit of his goals have proven him worthy to stand among scouting's elite, and he may indeed reflect with pride on a job well done; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Thomas Dunn on achieving the rank of Eagle Scout and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Eagle Scout Dunn as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
