 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Katherine Mendiola of Edinburg was selected to
 participate in the 2011 Moreno/Rangel Legislative Leadership
 Program, and during the 82nd Legislative Session, she has ably
 served her fellow Texans as an aide in the office of State
 Representative Veronica Gonzales; and
 WHEREAS, Sponsored by the Mexican American Legislative
 Leadership Foundation, the program offers outstanding university
 students and recent graduates an opportunity to serve as full-time
 policy interns in the offices of members of the Mexican American
 Legislative Caucus and gain experience working with the Texas
 Legislature; and
 WHEREAS, The daughter of Patricia and Jose Mendiola,
 Katherine Mendiola graduated magna cum laude from The University of
 Texas--Pan American in 2010 with a bachelor's degree in political
 science and English, and she is currently a student in the
 university's master of public administration program; as an
 undergraduate, she was president of the Pre-Law Society, historian
 of the Sigma Tau Delta International English Honor Society, senator
 for UTPA's College of Arts and Humanities, and reporter of the
 Political Science Association; and
 WHEREAS, Ms. Mendiola's desire to become involved in politics
 grew out of her experience working as an intern for U.S.
 Representative Henry Cuellar; she also hopes to one day practice
 law; and
 WHEREAS, Over the course of her tenure at the State Capitol,
 Ms. Mendiola has been of great assistance to Representative
 Gonzales's office, while acquiring knowledge of issues facing
 citizens of the Lone Star State; she has performed her duties as a
 legislative aide with skill, perseverance, and dedication, and she
 may indeed look forward to a rewarding future; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
 Legislature hereby honor Katherine Mendiola as a participant in the
 2011 Moreno/Rangel Legislative Leadership Program and commend her
 for her notable contributions to the legislative process; and, be
 it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Ms. Mendiola as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
