H.R. No. 2298 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Jazz Education Inc. is celebrating the grand opening of the 40 Seasons of Jazz Photo Exhibition in Houston on June 6, 2011; and WHEREAS, Founded by jazz artist Bubbha Thomas, JEI grew out of an eight-week summer program for 70 young musicians, which was supported by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts; the nonprofit group today serves more than 30,000 students from elementary school through college and has won the Barbara Jordan Award and numerous other accolades; and WHEREAS, The JEI sponsors several special projects and three main programs; the Jazz & Poetry Series helps elementary school children develop an appreciation for music, while the Summer Jazz Workshop offers young people the opportunity to enhance their musical knowledge through master classes, lectures, and other activities; each year, the Houston International Jazz Festival features a wide range of notable artists; and WHEREAS, Through its enrichment programs, special projects, and public events, Jazz Education Inc. has expanded the musical horizons of innumerable Texans and helped to broaden the audience for a unique American art form; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby honor Jazz Education Inc. on the occasion of the grand opening reception for the 40 Seasons of Jazz Photo Exhibition and extend to all those associated with the organization sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Jazz Education Inc. as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
