H.R. No. 2369 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Charles Richard Bergstrom III passed away on February 7, 2011, at the age of 75, leaving his circle of loved ones to cherish their many happy memories of time spent in his company; and WHEREAS, Charles Bergstrom was born in Abilene to Gladys and Charles Bergstrom on September 21, 1935; his family moved to Houston while he was still an infant, and he graduated from Lamar High School in 1954; an accomplished athlete, he helped lead the school's football team to the 1953 state championship and was recruited by many colleges; he accepted a football scholarship from Rice University and later graduated from Southern Methodist University; in 1958, he married the former Janet Rendleman, and the couple shared a rewarding relationship that spanned more than 50 years; and WHEREAS, Mr. Bergstrom became a pilot in the United States Air Force and flew F-102 fighters in the 497th Fighter Interceptor Squadron while stationed in Spain; after concluding his service at the rank of captain, he embarked on a career in business, becoming the president of M. L. Rendleman Company and Fiberglass Insulators; and WHEREAS, The loving father of three children and an active member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church, Mr. Bergstrom taught Sunday school and was a youth advisor; his hobbies included collecting high-performance cars and boats, and he greatly enjoyed spending time at his house on Lake McQueeney; and WHEREAS, Held in the highest regard by all who knew him, Charles Bergstrom built a life that was rich in family and friends, and he will long be fondly remembered and greatly missed; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Charles Richard Bergstrom III and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Janet Bergstrom; to his children, Charles Bergstrom IV, Larry Bergstrom and his wife, Dicey, and Beth Ann McCartney; to his three grandchildren, Merrimon, Regan, and Rendleman; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Charles Bergstrom.
