 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, The loss of Jose R. Coronado on February 26, 2011, is
 keenly felt by the numerous friends that he made through the years
 as well as by the many veterans whose lives he forever enriched; and
 WHEREAS, A native of Benavides, Mr. Coronado was born on
 April 3, 1932, to Pedro Coronado and Otila Coronado Garza; he served
 his country as a member of the U.S. Army and went on to have a
 distinguished career with the Department of Veterans Affairs that
 spanned 44 years; and
 WHEREAS, After nearly a decade of service with the Houston VA
 Medical Center, Mr. Coronado was selected as the first VA employee
 to attend the U.S. Army--Baylor University graduate program in
 healthcare administration; he earned his master's degree and went
 on to become assistant director and later director of the Audie L.
 Murphy Memorial Veterans Hospital; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Coronado was appointed director of the expanded
 South Texas Veterans Health Care System in 1995, and during his
 notable tenure he oversaw more than 2,800 employees across the
 state and an annual budget exceeding $450 million; his exemplary
 work was recognized with Presidential Rank Awards from Ronald
 Reagan, George H. W. Bush, and Bill Clinton; and
 WHEREAS, Although Jose Coronado's death has brought great
 sorrow to those who loved him, his life was an inspiring example of
 the good that one committed person can accomplish, and he will long
 be fondly remembered for the positive difference he made in the
 world around him; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Jose R. Coronado and
 extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his
 brother, Pedro Coronado, Jr.; to his sisters, Guadalupe Cuellar,
 Berta Corkill, Gloria Spencer, and Macarita Young; to his
 goddaughter, Leslie "Nikki" Fisher; and to his other relatives and
 friends; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Jose R.
 Coronado.
