 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Ines G. Carrera of Starr County, an esteemed
 educator and friend to many, passed away on January 27, 2011, at the
 age of 80; and
 WHEREAS, A descendant of the original Spanish-speaking
 pioneers who colonized Starr County in the mid-18th century, Ines
 Carrera was born at La Reforma Ranch on July 29, 1930, to Manuel
 Guerra Saenz and Francisca Ramirez Gera; she married Eladio
 Carrera, and together they shared 56 years of matrimony and became
 the parents of five children before Mr. Carrera passed away; and
 WHEREAS, At age 16, Mrs. Carrera was valedictorian of the
 Class of 1947 at San Isidro High School, and she went on to graduate
 with high honors from Texas State College for Women in 1951, earning
 both a bachelor of arts degree and a bachelor of science degree; and
 WHEREAS, Mrs. Carrera began her notable 28-year career in
 education during the 1951-52 school year, initially teaching home
 economics at Roma High School; she joined the faculty at Rio Grande
 City High School the following year before taking nine years off to
 raise her children; she returned to Rio Grande City High in 1962 and
 continued to work there until her retirement in 1988, by which time
 she was teaching some of the grandchildren of her original
 students; and
 WHEREAS, Mrs. Carrera loved history, reading, cooking,
 sewing, and gardening, and she served as president of the Rio Grande
 City Garden Club, the Starr County Historical Association, and the
 Rio Grande City Women's Club, of which she was a life member; in
 addition, she was a director of the Rio Grande City-Roma Pan
 American Round Table, a founding member of Los Caminos Del Rio, and
 a member of the Starr County Retired School Employees Association;
 and
 WHEREAS, Ines Carrera made a positive difference in the lives
 of countless Rio Grande City students, and she leaves behind a
 legacy of dedicated service to her community that will continue to
 resonate for many years to come; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Ines G. Carrera and
 extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her
 children, Eladio, Victor, Minerva, and Daniel Carrera and Gloria
 Lammers; to her grandchildren, Aaron, Carlos, and Olivia Lammers
 and Monique, Alexandro, Marisa, Marielle, Cristian, and Isaac
 Carrera; to her step-granddaughter, Celena Avila; to her siblings,
 Rafael, Juan Manuel, and Leonel Guerra, Elmira Beeler, and Berta
 Bradley; and to her other relatives and friends; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Ines
 Carrera.
