No. 2426 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, A life made rich through family, faith, and service to others drew to a close with the passing of Merline Clack Johnson on May 9, 2011, at the age of 69; and WHEREAS, Born in Seguin to Herff and Callie Clack on March 15, 1942, Merline Clack graduated from Ball High School in Seguin in 1960; a year later, she met and married Prince Albert Johnson of Detroit, who was serving in the United States Air Force and was stationed at Randolph Air Force Base; the couple were blessed with four sons, Quinton, Andre, Reginald, and Marcel; and WHEREAS, After Mr. Johnson's honorable discharge, the family relocated to Detroit, where Mrs. Johnson became a licensed practical nurse; she began her nursing career in 1976 at Henry Ford Hospital, where she was on the staff of the general practice neurological-neurosurgical patient care unit for 10 years; throughout her tenure at the facility, she was commended for her exceptional service, patient care, and professionalism by both her nursing supervisors and the neuroscience clinical instructors; and WHEREAS, In 1986, Mrs. Johnson returned to Texas, moving to San Antonio to be closer to her family and to help care for her aging parents; she was employed in the medical center at Methodist Hospital for 12 years before retiring, though she occasionally worked as a private duty and part-time nurse for the remainder of her life; and WHEREAS, Through the years, Mrs. Johnson was an active member of several different church congregations; she first belonged to Unity Baptist Church in Seguin and served as its church secretary; she later joined Third New Hope Baptist Church in Detroit, the Resurrection Baptist Church in Schertz, and, most recently, the Bethlehem Baptist Church in Mansfield; her cheerfulness, patience, and kind and gentle nature made her ideally suited to participate in the ushers and nurses ministry, and she did so for more than 25 years; and WHEREAS, While the death of Merline Johnson has brought great sorrow to her family and friends, she leaves behind a legacy that will long be treasured by all who had the good fortune to know her; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Merline Clack Johnson and extend sincere condolences to the members of her family: to her sons, Quinton Paul Johnson and his wife, Ina, Reginald DeWayne Johnson and his wife, Merlinda, Andre Johnson, and Marcel Lamont Johnson and his wife, Angela; to her grandchildren, Reginald, Andrea, Gina, Kayla, and Nicholas; to her sisters, Frances McClinton, Lena Thomas and her husband, Julius, and Dorothy Williams and her husband, Lester; to her brother, Connie Clack, and his wife, Stella; and to her other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Merline Johnson.
