H.R. No. 2615 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Isaiah Tellez has been named a finalist in the Texas Folklife 2011 Big Squeeze accordion contest; and WHEREAS, A sixth-grade student at De Zavala Middle School in Pasadena, Isaiah began playing bass guitar at the age of eight and the accordion two years later; he comes from a musical family that includes his father, Federico Tellez, and his uncle, Jorge Tellez, who both perform in a conjunto group; just 12 years old, Isaiah is the youngest accordionist to advance to the finals in the five-year history of the event; and WHEREAS, This talented entertainer was one of only four finalists selected to advance at the semifinals competition held at the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum in Austin on April 30, 2011; he will perform in the finals on June 4 during the 22nd annual Accordion Kings and Queens Festival held in Houston, appearing before a crowd that last year numbered more than 6,000; the 2011 Big Squeeze grand prize winner will receive a package valued at $4,500 that includes a new Hohner accordion and studio recording time; and WHEREAS, Isaiah Tellez is contributing to the unique cultural and artistic fabric of the Lone Star State at a remarkably young age, and he is indeed a source of pride to his family and community; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Isaiah Tellez on being named a finalist in the Texas Folklife 2011 Big Squeeze accordion contest and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Isaiah Tellez as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
