H.R. No. 267 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Residents of Dickinson lost a beloved neighbor and admired community leader with the passing of Richard Dix Diehl on July 20, 2010, at the age of 83; and WHEREAS, A native of Hightower, "RD" Diehl was born on August 27, 1926, to Walter and Alma Diehl; he served this nation as a member of the Army Air Corps during World War II and went on to have a notable 33-year career as a valued employee of Union Carbide; and WHEREAS, Mr. Diehl further distinguished himself through his service in behalf of area citizens; president of Galveston County Water Control and Improvement District No. 1 for a quarter-century, he also served as president and director of the North Galveston County Chamber of Commerce and as director of the Harris-Galveston Subsidence District; moreover, he benefited the Association of Water Board Directors, leading the group as director from 2003 until 2009; and WHEREAS, Mr. Diehl shared more than six decades of marriage with his wife, Nelda, and he took great pride in their children, Rick and Brenda, as well as their six granddaughters and eight great-granddaughters; in addition to spending time with his loved ones, this avid pilot enjoyed flying throughout his life; and WHEREAS, "RD" Diehl is deeply missed, and memories of him will long serve to comfort and inspire those he leaves behind; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Richard Dix Diehl and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Nelda Fay Diehl; to his son, Rick Diehl, and his wife, Beth; to his daughter, Brenda Brock, and her husband, John; to his brothers, Robert, William, and Ronald Diehl; to his granddaughters, Cristi Finney, Tranette Whitfield, Julie Brinkley, Cari Pease, Jennifer Diehl, and Holly Teague; to his great-granddaughters, Taylor Finney, Jordan Finney, Sydney McCrory, Brooklyn Ochoa, Avery Brinkley, Cameron Whitfield, Chandler Brinkley, and Piper Pease; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Richard Dix Diehl.
