H.R. No. 2699
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, David Salinas, head baseball coach of Falfurrias
High School, achieved a notable milestone by recording his 500th
career victory on April 1
, 2011; and
WHEREAS, Coach Salinas led his squad to an 8-4 triumph over
Benavides High School to earn win number 500, and his
accomplishment is all the more impressive given that he has lost
just 168 games in his 23 years as a coach; and
WHEREAS, A Falfurrias native who played four years of
baseball for the Jerseys in the 1970s, Coach Salinas went on to
graduate from The University of Texas at Austin; he began his career
as an assistant coach in La Joya, where he worked for three years
before accepting the head coaching job at his alma mater in 1989;
over the course of his outstanding tenure, he has guided the Jerseys
to the 1991 state championship and 15 district titles, and the team
has made appearances in 3 state tournaments, 7 regional finals, and
18 state playoffs; and
WHEREAS, Winning 500 games is a rare feat and one that
reflects great skill and dedication, and Coach Salinas is truly
deserving of special recognition for this remarkable
accomplishment; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Coach David Salinas on attaining
his 500th career victory and extend to him sincere best wishes for
continued success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Coach Salinas as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
