H.R. No. 2709 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Anthony Kennedy Shriver is making a positive difference in the lives of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities through his Best Buddies International organization; and WHEREAS, Founded in 1989, Best Buddies is dedicated to creating opportunities for friendships, integrated employment, and leadership development for people with disabilities; the nonprofit organization has grown to encompass nearly 1,500 middle school, high school, and college chapters in all 50 states and in 50 countries around the world; its programs positively impact nearly 700,000 individuals, and the support services contributed by its volunteers have been valued at more than $164 million annually; and WHEREAS, Mr. Shriver is a graduate of Georgetown University and was inspired to create Best Buddies by the example of his parents, Sargent Shriver and Eunice Kennedy Shriver, and their lifelong devotion to philanthropy; he has led the organization for more than two decades and has received a host of well-deserved accolades for his service; and WHEREAS, Through his enduring work with Best Buddies, Anthony Kennedy Shriver has helped countless people with special needs become more fully engaged in their communities, and he and the organization's staff and volunteers are indeed worthy of special commendation; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby honor Best Buddies International and its founder, Anthony Kennedy Shriver, for improving the quality of life for people with disabilities; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Shriver and his outstanding organization as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
