H.R. No. 2713 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The Honorable Gary Slagel was deservedly named the 2010 Citizen of the Year by the Richardson Chamber of Commerce; and WHEREAS, The mayor of Richardson for the past 18 years, Mr. Slagel has been a member of the city council since 1987 and previously served on the zoning board of adjustment and appeals; he is concluding his long and distinguished tenure in city government in May 2011; he has further demonstrated his dedication to his community as president of the North Central Texas Council of Governments and the Metroplex Mayors Association, and he has been a member of the executive committee of the Dallas Regional Mobility Coalition; in 2003, he received the William J. Pitstick Regional Excellence Award from NCTCOG, and he was later selected as Public Official Business Partner of the Year by Inside Collin County Business; and WHEREAS, Mayor Slagel has been instrumental in the development of the city's telecom corridor since 1995, when he engaged the chamber of commerce and venture capitalists to create a technology incubator; a native of Illinois, he earned his bachelor's degree in industrial technology from Illinois State University and worked for General Electric before moving to Richardson in 1974 to begin a 17-year career with Texas Instruments; he later launched several successful start-up companies and is today the founder, president, and CEO of CapitalSoft, Inc.; in 2002, the Metroplex Technology Business Council gave him its Tech Titans Award; he is supported in all his endeavors by his wife, Pat, and their children and grandchildren; and WHEREAS, Through his dedication to public service and his commitment to the prosperity of Richardson's business community, Gary Slagel has made a lasting, positive difference, and he indeed merits this prestigious accolade; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Gary Slagel on his selection as 2010 Citizen of the Year by the Richardson Chamber of Commerce and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success in his endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mayor Slagel as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
