H.R. No. 2716
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Garland city council member Doug Athas has been
reappointed to the National League of Cities First Tier Suburbs
Council for 2011; and
WHEREAS, With his reappointment Mr. Athas is beginning his
fourth year of service on the council, which is dedicated to
addressing the challenges faced by municipalities located outside
of central cities but within the ring of developing suburbs; the
council provides local officials with a means of networking with
one another and discussing common problems and solutions; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Athas was a Garland plan commissioner for eight
years and has represented District 1 on the city council since 2006;
by taking a prominent role in the First Tier Suburbs Council, he is
helping Garland to negotiate the challenges and opportunities of
its position in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex while also earning
the city national recognition for its innovative responses to
urgent issues; his continued involvement in this worthwhile
initiative is good news for area citizens and promises further
benefits in the year ahead; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Doug Athas on his reappointment to
the National League of Cities First Tier Suburbs Council and extend
to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Athas as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
