H.R. No. 2727
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The City of Garland has earned statewide recognition
in the 2011 Governor's Community Achievement Awards program; and
WHEREAS, Sponsored by Keep Texas Beautiful and the Texas
Department of Transportation, the awards pay tribute to towns that
excel in their efforts to improve their outdoor spaces; honorees
are chosen based on initiatives that encourage citizens,
businesses, schools, local government, and youth to maintain and
enhance the physical appearance of their community; and
WHEREAS, Receiving third place among cities with more than
180,000 residents, Garland was honored for several programs,
including the Green 101 classes, the local Healthy Living Expo, and
the Keep Garland Beautiful landscaping project at Rick Oden Park;
and
WHEREAS, The City of Garland has demonstrated an ongoing
commitment to the environment through its wide-ranging efforts, and
in so doing, it is improving the quality of life in the area and
setting a noteworthy example for other communities across the
state; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate the City of Garland on earning
third place in the 2011 Governor's Community Achievement Awards
program and extend to all those involved with this effort sincere
best wishes for the future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the city as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
