H.R. No. 2757 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Highland Park High School has been named among the top schools in the nation in the Washington Post's High School Challenge; and WHEREAS, In selecting the winners of its High School Challenge, the Washington Post compiled a list of nearly 2,000 public schools and ranked them according to the number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, or Cambridge tests taken by graduating seniors in the school; Highland Park High, the only large, comprehensive high school in Texas to receive this recognition, placed 11th in the state for its students' participation in advanced placement exams, and it was ranked 35th in the United States; and WHEREAS, Highland Park High has long enjoyed a reputation for academic rigor; it has been rated "exemplary" by the Texas Education Agency every year since the state accountability system began, and it is designated as a Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education; moreover, it has been frequently named one of the country's best schools in such publications as U.S. News and World Report, Newsweek, Parade, and the Wall Street Journal; and WHEREAS, Under the skilled leadership of principal Walter Kelly, the faculty and staff at Highland Park High School dedicate themselves to providing a challenging, well-rounded education for the HPHS students, and all associated with the school can take justifiable pride in this most recent accolade; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Highland Park High School on its fine showing in the Washington Post's High School Challenge and extend to the students, faculty, and administration sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Highland Park High School as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
