R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Savan Bhakta is graduating as the valedictorian of
the senior class of Channelview High School on June 5, 2011; and
WHEREAS, Earning the title of valedictorian requires not only
intellect and aptitude, but also four years of dedication to the
highest academic standards; to attain this coveted distinction, Mr.
Bhakta demonstrated a thorough understanding of a wide range of
subjects, and the rewards of the countless hours he has devoted to
his studies are myriad; and
WHEREAS, In addition to the pride inherent in being
recognized as the highest achieving student in his class, Mr.
Bhakta has gained the opportunity to address his fellow seniors at
commencement and to reflect on their shared history as well as their
hopes and ambitions for the future; and
WHEREAS, The son of Bipin and Maya Bhakta, Savan Bhakta has
distinguished himself as a member of the National Honor Society and
by his selection as a Jesse H. Jones and Mary Gibbs Jones Scholar;
in addition to his academic achievements, he has worked as a
chemistry tutor and volunteered at the Houston Food Bank, and he was
a member of the Psychology Club at San Jacinto College; he plans to
attend the University of Houston and to later enroll at the Baylor
College of Medicine; and
WHEREAS, Savan Bhakta has earned the respect and admiration
of his teachers and classmates at Channelview High School, and his
exceptional scholastic ability, hard work, and commitment to
excellence have opened the way to limitless opportunities for this
remarkable young Texan; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Savan Bhakta on being named
valedictorian of the Channelview High School Class of 2011 and
extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success as he begins
the next exciting chapter of his life; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Bhakta as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
