 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, While war deaths have been a part of our heritage
 since the birth of this nation, the United States has not instituted
 an official symbol commemorating fallen members of the military;
 and
 WHEREAS, The Honor and Remember Flag features a red field to
 represent the brave men and women who have sacrificed their lives
 for freedom; its blue star represents active service in military
 conflict, a symbolism that dates back to World War I; the flag's
 white border recognizes the purity of sacrifice and its gold star
 signifies ultimate sacrifice, reflecting the value of the life of a
 warrior who has made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty; the
 folded flag element highlights this nation's final tribute to a
 fallen service member and honors a family's sacrifice; the flag's
 flame symbolizes the eternal spirit of the departed; and
 WHEREAS, Our nation owes a debt of gratitude to the estimated
 1.6 million members of the military who have fallen over the course
 of our shared history and to the families and communities who mourn
 their loss; the Honor and Remember Flag provides an opportunity to
 express respect and enduring appreciation for the sacrifices of
 these courageous Americans; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
 Legislature hereby recognize the Honor and Remember Flag and pay
 tribute to the brave men and women of the United States armed forces
 whose lives were cut grievously short in our country's service.
