H.R. No. 355 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The untimely passing of Thea Williams-Douglas of San Antonio on September 29, 2010, at the age of 45, brought a profoundly felt loss to the family and many friends of this esteemed journalist; and WHEREAS, A native of the Alamo City, the former Thea Elaine Williams was born on January 5, 1965, and was the fifth child of Theodore and Louise Williams; she attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic School and St. Gerard Catholic School, and she went on to graduate from Highlands High School; her passion for journalism led her to earn both a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in that field of study from The University of Texas at Austin and Northwestern University, respectively; and WHEREAS, Ms. Williams-Douglas spent most of her career as a valued employee of KVUE-TV in Austin, and she was admired by her colleagues for her commitment to excellence; she further dedicated her time to Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Jack and Jill of America, Inc., and the National Association of Black Journalists, and she was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church; and WHEREAS, A devoted mother, Ms. Williams-Douglas delighted in the company of her two children, Khari and Amira, and she was known for her compassion, her strong faith, and her warm personality; and WHEREAS, Thea Williams-Douglas brought joy and laughter into the lives of countless individuals, and although she was taken far too soon, she leaves behind a legacy that will forever be treasured by all those who were fortunate enough to know her; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Thea Williams-Douglas and extend deepest condolences to the members of her family: to her children, Khari and Amira; to her parents, Theodore and Louise Williams; to her sister, Marcia Williams; to her brothers, Wayne Williams, Darrell Williams, and Brian Keith Williams; to her grandmother, Hattie Turner; to her niece, Lindsay Williams; to her nephew, Sterling Williams; and to her other relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Thea Williams-Douglas.
