 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and
 meaningful accomplishments remain to comfort the family and friends
 of Dorothy Dee Nicholson of San Antonio, who died on September 19,
 2009, at the age of 95; and
 WHEREAS, Born in Kerrville on March 10, 1914, to George and
 Della Owens, the former Dorothy Owens graduated from Charlton
 Pollard High School in Beaumont, where she was distinguished as the
 class essayist; she went on to attend St. Philip's College before
 earning a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Tillotson
 College and a master's degree from Texas Southern University; a
 proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, she pursued
 postgraduate studies at the University of California, Los Angeles,
 The University of Texas at Austin, and Trinity University; and
 WHEREAS, Mrs. Nicholson began her career in education as a
 teacher at Rosewood Elementary School in Austin; after moving to
 San Antonio, she taught at Dorie Miller and Fannin Elementary
 Schools and later retired as principal of Barkley/Ruiz Elementary;
 and
 WHEREAS, Baptized at St. John Baptist Church in Beaumont as a
 child, Mrs. Nicholson remained dedicated to her faith throughout
 her life; she was an active congregant of Second Baptist Church in
 San Antonio for 75 years, serving as president of the Baptist Young
 People's Union and the Women's Missionary Union and as a member of
 the hospitality committee and board of trustees; moreover, she
 founded the Willing Workers Circle and the Rebecca Circle and
 taught Sunday school; and
 WHEREAS, Following the passing of her first husband, Aubrey
 Spriggs, this esteemed woman was fortunate enough to find love a
 second time with Timothy Nicholson, with whom she enjoyed a
 fulfilling marriage until his death in 1989; and
 WHEREAS, Dorothy Nicholson lived a caring and purposeful
 life, and she will forever be remembered with great affection and
 admiration by all those who held her dear; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Dorothy Dee
 Nicholson and extend sincere sympathy to her beloved friend, Helen
 Joshua; to her special nurse, Joyce Edmondson; to her nieces and
 nephews; and to all those who mourn her passing; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Dorothy Dee
 Nicholson.
