 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, The Honorable Veronica Escobar took office in
 January 2011 as county judge of El Paso County; and
 WHEREAS, Born in El Paso and raised in the lower valley,
 Veronica Escobar graduated from The University of Texas at El Paso
 in 1991 and earned a master's degree from New York University in
 1993; she worked at El Paso Community College, UTEP, and various
 nonprofits before being elected to the El Paso County Commissioners
 Court from Precinct 2 in 2007; and
 WHEREAS, During her tenure as a commissioner, Judge Escobar
 organized and hosted the county's first Shared Services Summits,
 which brought together multiple school districts and
 municipalities, the hospital district, the community college, and
 the county; the events resulted in the creation of a shared
 technology data center, joint purchasing, integrated IT services,
 and other projects that have saved area taxpayers millions of
 dollars; she was also deeply engaged in issues related to health
 care, border policy, nature tourism, and transportation, as well as
 government consolidation, the revitalization of downtown El Paso,
 and economic development; and
 WHEREAS, Judge Escobar has given generously of her time and
 talents to numerous civic organizations, among them Community
 Scholars, the Border Network for Human Rights, the Border Fair
 Housing and Economic Justice Center, the Hispanic Leadership
 Institute, and the Women's Political Action Committee of El Paso;
 she has been recognized by the Center for Civic Engagement and by
 Women for an Ethical El Paso, and she has been named Elected
 Official of the Year by the El Paso branch of the National
 Association of Social Workers; and
 WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan has exemplified the highest
 standards of public service and worked tirelessly to advance the
 common good, and she is indeed deserving of commendation as she
 takes on the challenges of her new office; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate the Honorable Veronica Escobar on
 her election as county judge of El Paso County and extend to her
 sincere best wishes for continued success in all her endeavors;
 and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Judge Escobar as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
