 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, The Joseph "Jo Jo" Westmoreland Scholarship Fund BBQ
 takes place in Hughes Springs on the last weekend in April each
 year; and
 WHEREAS, Held in conjunction with the Wildflower Trails
 festivities, this popular event features a competition sanctioned
 by the International Barbeque Cookers Association, with numerous
 pit masters vying for prizes for the tastiest smoked delicacies;
 and
 WHEREAS, The cook-off was first established in 2010 and
 honors the life of Joseph "Jo Jo" Westmoreland, a former student and
 member of the football team at Hughes Springs High School, who
 tragically passed away on February 18, 2009, at the age of 16; and
 WHEREAS, To pay tribute to this beloved young man, a
 scholarship fund was created to assist local students with their
 studies, and the barbeque serves as a fund-raiser for this positive
 community initiative; and
 WHEREAS, This two-day gathering is a worthwhile benefit that
 promises good fun, good food, and some spirited cooking
 competition, and it is a welcome addition to the notable lineup of
 barbeque celebrations that take place in the Lone Star State; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
 Legislature hereby honor the Joseph "Jo Jo" Westmoreland
 Scholarship Fund BBQ and extend sincere best wishes to all those
 involved for an enjoyable and rewarding event; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for the cook-off as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
