H.R. No. 501 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The Longview chapter of AMBUCS is celebrating National AMBUCS Visibility Month during February 2011; and WHEREAS, AMBUCS is a national service organization that works to foster the mobility and independence of people with disabilities; in chapters throughout the country, AMBUCS members participate in community projects, provide scholarships for occupational and physical therapy students, and donate AmTryke therapeutic tricycles to individuals who are unable to operate traditional bicycles; and WHEREAS, Chartered in 1984, the Longview chapter is distinguished as the original creator of the AmTryke, which members developed in 1989 in response to the need for tricycles for children with disabilities; the chapter built the unique machines by hand until 1994, when National AMBUCS established AmTryke, LLC, and took over production; to date, more than 15,000 AmTrykes have been distributed around the world; and WHEREAS, The Longview chapter has also initiated many worthwhile projects over the years, including the construction of wheelchair ramps, the installation of handicapped accessible playground equipment at Rotary/AMBUCS park, and the donation of wheelchairs, hospital beds, chair lifts, and other items to East Texans with disabilities; and WHEREAS, Volunteers of Longview AMBUCS have made a positive difference in the lives of countless individuals, and it is a pleasure to honor them for their continuing commitment to people with disabilities; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby recognize February 2011 as National AMBUCS Visibility Month and commend the members of the Longview chapter for their outstanding contributions to their fellow Texans; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the Longview chapter of AMBUCS as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
