R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The city of San Antonio lost a beloved resident with
the death of Diana S. Dupre on January 30, 2011; and
WHEREAS, A woman with a remarkable zest for life, Diana Dupre
was born in San Antonio on July 5, 1938; known throughout her life
as "Sunshine," she attended Incarnate Word High School and went on
to earn her bachelor's degree from The University of Texas at
Austin; soon after graduating, she worked as an intern in Zurich,
Switzerland, where she cultivated a love for the arts and acquired a
passion for travel and lifelong learning; and
WHEREAS, A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Mrs. Dupre
enjoyed a 44-year union with her husband, Daniel; they were blessed
with two children, Eric and Sabrina, and a grandchild, Evan; one of
Mrs. Dupre's proudest moments was when her family was honored by the
Family Service Association as its 2001 Family of the Year; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Dupre contributed immeasurably to the
betterment of San Antonio through her tireless volunteer work and
fund-raising efforts; she was a member of the Pan American Round
Table of San Antonio, a women's organization that fosters
friendship and understanding among the peoples of the Western
Hemisphere, and in 1976 she was selected as director of the
worldwide Alliance of Pan American Round Tables, which at the time
included 133 local groups; she also served as president of the
charitable organization Sembradores de Amistad, as well as
president of the Opera Guild of the San Antonio Symphony; when the
symphony stopped producing operas, Mrs. Dupre helped revitalize the
guild by leading fund-raising efforts that allowed it to carry on as
the Opera Guild of San Antonio, with a mission to support opera
projects in the community; moreover, she used her gift for
motivating others to help raise the funds to keep St. Anthony
Catholic School operating; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan served on the board of directors
for numerous organizations, including the San Antonio Symphony,
Arts San Antonio, the Monte Vista Historical Association, the
National Conference of Christians and Jews, and the Cancer Center
Council of the Cancer Therapy and Research Center; in 1980 she was
named Outstanding Club Woman of the Year by the San Antonio
Express-News, and she was a San Antonio Women's Hall of Fame
nominee; and
WHEREAS, While the death of Diana Dupre has brought great
sorrow to her family and friends, she has left behind a treasured
legacy of memories and achievements, and those who were privileged
to share in the richness of her life will forever hold her close in
their hearts; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Diana S. Dupre and
extend sincere condolences to the members of her family: to her
husband, Daniel Dupre; to her children, Eric and Sabrina; to her
grandson, Evan; to her brothers, Dr. Earl M. Stenger-Castro and
Frank Stenger-Castro; to her sister, Patricia Meritz; to her
nieces, Gianna Fertitta and her husband, Manny Valdez, Martina
Meritz and her husband, Vince Alvarado, and Debbie Walker and her
husband, Rodney; to her nephews, Joey Fertitta, Darren Meritz, and
Danny Hightower; to her sister-in-law, Dion Dupre Escher; and to
her many other relatives and friends; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Diana
Dupre.
