H.R. No. 551 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Visitors from numerous Texas YMCAs are gathering at the State Capitol on February 23, 2011, and this occasion provides a welcome opportunity to honor the YMCA for its success in strengthening communities throughout the Lone Star State; and WHEREAS, The Y is a nonprofit organization committed to the goals of nurturing youth development, promoting healthy living, and inspiring social responsibility; in collaboration with government, business, and other nonprofit groups, the Y works to maximize civic resources and to ensure that all individuals have the chance to learn, grow, and thrive; and WHEREAS, In Texas, 30 different corporate YMCAs serve over 150 communities; moreover, 3,000 volunteers share their time and talents on local YMCA boards and provide leadership and direction to an additional 60,000 program volunteers and 5,000 employees; touching many lives, there are more than 1.3 million YMCA members in Texas, and half that number are children; and WHEREAS, The Y has contributed immeasurably to the health and well-being of residents of the Lone Star State, and its presence will continue to be an asset to the cities, towns, and neighborhoods of Texas for years to come; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby welcome the honored guests from YMCAs across Texas to the State Capitol and extend to all those associated with this outstanding organization sincere best wishes for continued success with their important work.
