H.R. No. 611
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Each year during the month of March, citizens across
the nation recognize the American Red Cross and the essential role
it plays in our communities, and this tradition provides a welcome
occasion to honor the Parker County Branch of the Chisholm Trail
Regional Chapter of the American Red Cross for its contributions to
the local area; and
WHEREAS, The American Red Cross was designated in 1905 by the
United States Congress as the lead volunteer agency responsible for
national relief in times of peace, including assistance during
famine, fire, flood, and other calamities; by offering education,
lifesaving information, and first aid training, the organization
also helps citizens prevent, prepare for, and respond to
emergencies; and
WHEREAS, An independent charitable organization, the
American Red Cross is supported by the generosity of its donors; to
perform its vital work, the Red Cross relies on everyday heroes who
contribute in various ways, from coordinating blood drives to
offering their assistance in response to natural disasters and
other crises; and
WHEREAS, The Parker County Branch of the Chisholm Trail
Regional Chapter of the American Red Cross is headquartered in
Weatherford and covers an area of approximately 910 square miles
with a population of more than 116,000; in 2010, the Chisholm Trail
Regional Chapter responded to over 600 incidents in its 23 service
counties, including windstorms, tornadoes, and wildfires; the
chapter also provides family preparedness training and water safety
and lifeguard instruction, and it facilitates communications
between members of the military and their loved ones; and
WHEREAS, The American Red Cross touches millions of lives
each year, and with its mission to both prevent and relieve
suffering, the organization and its community branches are
deserving of the enduring respect and support of all Texans; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
Legislature hereby recognize March 2011 as American Red Cross Month
and honor the Parker County Branch of the Chisholm Trail Regional
Chapter of the American Red Cross for its beneficial work; and, be
it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the Parker County Branch as an expression of high
regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
