H.R. No. 619 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and meaningful accomplishments remain to comfort the family and friends of John L. Kingston of Spring, who passed away on December 22, 2010, at the age of 81; and WHEREAS, A native of the Lone Star State, Mr. Kingston was born in Austin on July 26, 1929; he grew up in Corpus Christi, where he began working on the docks and waterfront at the age of 13; he went on to help develop the "Billy Pugh Personnel Net," which is still used today to transport crews from boats to offshore oil rigs; and WHEREAS, Mr. Kingston embarked on his marine surveying career in 1966; after working with Captain W. A. Walls and MatthewsDaniel, he formed his own venture, John L. Kingston & Associates; a leader in his field, he was admired for his vast knowledge of marine vessels and was often called on to testify as an expert witness; he was also a mentor to many, and two men who benefited from his guidance went on to serve as president of the National Association of Marine Surveyors; and WHEREAS, Mr. Kingston shared 34 years of marriage with the love of his life, Elvie Kingston, and together they supported a number of conservative causes and candidates; a Texan through and through, he could often be found wearing cowboy boots; and WHEREAS, John Kingston enjoyed a life that was rich in the intangibles that matter most, and he is deeply missed by all those who held him dear; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of John L. Kingston and extend deepest sympathy to his wife, Elvie Kingston; to his brother and three sisters; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of John Kingston.
