H.R. No. 688 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Shannon K. McClendon of Dripping Springs completed an outstanding tenure on the Texas Board of Professional Engineers in January 2011; and WHEREAS, Appointed by Governor Rick Perry to the TBPE in December 2002, she benefited the board as a member of its licensing, legislative issues, and general issues committees, and she further distinguished herself as interim secretary during July and August 2008 and as board secretary from August 2008 until January 2011; and WHEREAS, This accomplished Texan previously served the state as a member of the board of directors of the Electric Reliability Council of Texas and as the residential consumer representative on that organization's Technical Advisory Committee; and WHEREAS, After earning her bachelor's degree from the University of Houston--Clear Lake, Ms. McClendon worked at NASA, Texas Instruments, and Texas A&M University before earning her law degree from the University of Houston; now a private attorney specializing in the electric industry, she has served as senior regulatory counsel for the Texas-New Mexico Power Company and as associate public counsel at the Texas Office of Public Utility Counsel; and WHEREAS, In addition to her busy professional life, Ms. McClendon has been a board member of the Hill Country Republican Women PAC, president of the University of Houston Alumni Association--Austin UH Club, and vice president of the Texas Ratepayers' Organization to Save Energy; she is also a member of the State Bar of Texas, the Gulf Coast Power Association, and the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center; and WHEREAS, Shannon McClendon's leadership during her tenure on the TBPE has greatly benefited her fellow Texans, and she may indeed reflect with pride on her contributions to the board's important work; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby commend Shannon K. McClendon for her exemplary service on the Texas Board of Professional Engineers and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. McClendon as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
