 R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Taking on the nation's growing budget crisis, United
States senator Rand Paul has introduced the Cut Federal Spending
Act of 2011, a bold proposal to slash the cost of government by $500
 billion; and
WHEREAS, According to Congressional Budget Office
projections, the federal budget will show a deficit of close to $1.5
trillion in 2011 if current laws remain unchanged; this alarming
figure represents 9.8 percent of gross domestic product; the
country ran similar deficits in the past two years, with deficits of
$1.4 trillion and $1.3 trillion in 2009 and 2010, respectively; and
WHEREAS, The Cut Federal Spending Act would roll back federal
expenditures to 2008 levels by ending wasteful programs and those
that are beyond the constitutional role of the federal government,
such as education and housing; the measure would effectively
eliminate nearly 40 percent of the projected deficit; and
WHEREAS, Annual deficits of more than $1 trillion imperil the
health of our already struggling economy; the $500 billion
reduction achieved through the Cut Federal Spending Act would
reduce the amount of interest that the U.S. government owes to
foreign holders of its debt and eventually lessen the tax burden on
individual citizens; moreover, it would allow more money to remain
in local coffers, enabling states, counties, municipalities, and
school districts to better manage their own budget challenges; now,
 therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
Legislature hereby urge the United States senators from Texas to
support passage of the Cut Federal Spending Act of 2011; and, be it
 further
RESOLVED, That the chief clerk forward an official copy of
this resolution to the United States senators representing Texas.
