 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Lorraine C. Camacho was posthumously recognized by
 the Austin History Center in conjunction with its exhibit Mexican
 American Firsts: Trailblazers of Austin and Travis County; and
 WHEREAS, Honoring the important contributions made by
 Mexican Americans to Central Texas, the Austin History Center and
 its association joined with the Austin Public Library to organize
 the show, which ran from August 21, 2010, through January 16, 2011;
 Mexican American Firsts: Trailblazers of Austin and Travis County
 celebrated the pioneering achievements of 32 remarkable men and
 women and provided the public with an opportunity to learn more
 about their lives; and
 WHEREAS, One such individual, Lorraine Camacho, was honored
 for her achievements in education; her tireless efforts in behalf
 of education and the safety of young people earned her the
 affectionate nickname "Grandma" Camacho; giving generously of her
 time and talents, she volunteered as a room mother for the Reading
 Is Fundamental program at Metz Elementary School, and she had her
 home designated as a McGruff Safe House for neighborhood children;
 and
 WHEREAS, This beloved matriarch was the recipient of numerous
 accolades; the City of Austin proclaimed September 15, 1991, as
 Lorraine Castro Camacho Day, and she was recognized in connection
 with the Metz Elementary 80th Anniversary Celebration
 Commemorative History Play; moreover, the Austin Parks and
 Recreation Department named its facility on Robert Martinez Drive
 the Lorraine "Grandma" Camacho Center in her honor; and
 WHEREAS, Through her outstanding accomplishments, Lorraine
 Camacho made a positive difference in her community, and her legacy
 is a source of pride and inspiration to many people; now, therefore,
 be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Lorraine C. "Grandma"
 Camacho, a Mexican American Trailblazer of Austin and Travis
 County.
