H.R. No. 750 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The Texas Young Democrats are holding their 2011 convention in Austin April 1 through 3 in conjunction with the Young Democrats of America South-Central Regional Conference, which includes members from Arkansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Texas; and WHEREAS, Young Democrats is the youth arm of the Democratic Party; its membership is for those under the age of 36, and its mission is to promote participation in the electoral process, to influence the ideals of the Democratic Party, and to develop the skills of its members to serve as leaders at the local and national level; and WHEREAS, Formed in 1932, Texas Young Democrats brings together high school and college students, youth leaders, and young professionals to take part in the political process as supporters of the Democratic Party; it provides a forum for Texans to learn about politics, meet other activists, and debate issues, and many of its members have enjoyed distinguished careers in public service; and WHEREAS, By urging engagement in public dialogue, the Texas Young Democrats and their colleagues in the Young Democrats of America South-Central Region forge strong links between citizens and their governmental representatives and help strengthen the rights and traditions that are the foundation of American democracy; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby commemorate the 2011 convention of the Texas Young Democrats and the Young Democrats of America South-Central Regional Conference and extend to the participants sincere best wishes for a memorable and meaningful event.
