H.R. No. 807 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The members of First Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Houston are celebrating the 120th anniversary of their church's founding in March 2011; and WHEREAS, First Shiloh Missionary Baptist was organized in 1891 by families who resettled in Houston following a devastating flood of the Red River in Shreveport, Louisiana; the church constructed its first building at the turn of the century, and in 1955 members entered a new two-story brick structure that continues to house services today; and WHEREAS, Through the years, First Shiloh Missionary Baptist has benefited from the able guidance of many dedicated leaders, and that tradition of service continues under the direction of the current pastor, the Reverend John E. Fields; and WHEREAS, United by their shared faith and strong traditions, the men and women of this notable house of worship support a variety of commendable programs that offer fellowship as well as help to those in need, including Operation Outreach and the Junior Church; and WHEREAS, First Shiloh Missionary Baptist has long served as a source of spiritual enrichment to those who worship there, and its continued existence is a tribute to the unwavering commitment of its members, both past and present; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby congratulate all those associated with First Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church on its 120th anniversary and extend to the congregation sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the church as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
