H.R. No. 808 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Members of the Leadership Southwest Class of 2011 are visiting the State Capitol on March 16, 2011, to gain further insight into the workings of state government; and WHEREAS, An initiative of the communities of southwest Dallas County, Leadership Southwest had 23 participants in its inaugural class of 1985, and over the ensuing 26 years it has graduated more than 800 civic-minded individuals; the organization is a cooperative effort sponsored by the Cedar Hill, DeSoto, Duncanville, Lancaster, and Oak Cliff Chambers of Commerce that works to develop tomorrow's leaders and inspire the spirit of activism for the public good; and WHEREAS, The nine-month program involves exposure to critical issues facing the community and instruction from leaders on topics such as education, law enforcement, the arts, government, economic growth, health, and transportation; many participants go on to serve their fellow Texans on boards of schools, hospitals, and other institutions or through elected offices; and WHEREAS, Endeavoring to foster a more informed and involved citizenry and to develop new leaders, the program is helping to build a brighter and more prosperous future for the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby welcome members of the Leadership Southwest Class of 2011 to the State Capitol and extend to all participants sincere best wishes for a meaningful and memorable stay in Austin; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Leadership Southwest as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
