 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, The Jourdanton Independent School District is
 celebrating the 100th anniversary of its founding in 2011; and
 WHEREAS, Located in Atascosa County south of San Antonio, the
 town of Jourdanton was established in 1909 and experienced a
 population boom over the next few years; a subscription school had
 242 students by 1910, and the state legislature authorized the
 creation of the Jourdanton Independent School District on March 23,
 1911; and
 WHEREAS, A three-story schoolhouse was built in the center of
 the growing city, and a football field, a gymnasium, and a separate
 annex for the high school were added on adjoining lots over the next
 decades; eventually, smaller schools in outlying areas began
 closing, and students from the communities of Amphion, Hilburn,
 Lyon, Imogene, LaParita, and Christine were absorbed into
 Jourdanton's enrollment; the downtown campus location became more
 crowded with the growth of the student body, and construction on new
 facilities at the school's current location were begun in 1953;
 today, the campus encompasses three libraries, an administrative
 building, two gymnasiums, athletic fields, and various other
 facilities, including a high school science wing that was added in
 2001; and
 WHEREAS, Jourdanton ISD currently serves approximately 1,300
 students from prekindergarten through high school, and it is one of
 the few remaining districts in Texas to maintain a single-campus
 model; ably led by superintendent Dr. Lana E. Collavo, the district
 employs a faculty and staff of more than 150; its students have gone
 on to excel in a variety of professions, and among the district's
 alumni are NASA researchers, journalists, chefs, professional
 athletes, lawyers, and novelists; the district has also produced
 many teachers, some of whom have returned to Jourdanton schools to
 educate the next generation; and
 WHEREAS, Grounded in the values of the families who have
 chosen to make the Jourdanton area their home, the Jourdanton
 Independent School District has provided a century's worth of
 students with a solid foundation on which they could build
 rewarding and fulfilling lives; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
 Legislature hereby commemorate the 100th anniversary of the
 Jourdanton Independent School District and extend to all educators,
 staff, and students sincere best wishes for continued success; and,
 be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for the district as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
