H.R. No. 854 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew to a close when Leo Raymond Vrana of Corpus Christi passed away on February 20, 2011, at the age of 89; and WHEREAS, Leo Vrana was born in Moravia, Texas, on March 21, 1921, the fourth of six children of Ignac and Millie Vrana; he graduated from Robstown High School in 1938 and went on to join the U.S. Navy; and WHEREAS, This distinguished veteran survived the attack on Pearl Harbor and earned a number of honors for his courageous service, including the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon with six bronze battle stars, American Defense Service Medal, American Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal, WWII Navy Occupation Service Medal, and Philippine Liberation Medal with two bronze stars; he was also awarded the Good Conduct medal and the Presidential Unit Citation for the Leyte Gulf surface engagement; and WHEREAS, Mr. Vrana returned to civilian life in 1946 and became a valued part of his father's construction business in Robstown; active in his community and faith, he participated in the Boy Scouts of America, Knights of Columbus, Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem, Pearl Harbor Survivors Association, and Veterans of Foreign Wars; and WHEREAS, Above all else, Mr. Vrana enjoyed spending time with his loved ones; he shared 63 years of marriage with his wife, Henrietta, and together they raised four children, Suzanne, Mary, Steve, and Greg; and WHEREAS, Devoted to his family, his country, and his community, Leo Vrana made a positive difference in many lives, and he will be fondly remembered for years to come; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Leo Raymond Vrana and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Henrietta Prochaska Vrana; to his children, Suzanne Vrana, Mary Shafer and her husband, Mark, Steve Vrana, and Greg Vrana; to his grandchildren, Valerie Collins and her husband, Chris, and Megan Shafer; to his great-grandchildren, Eric Shafer and Olivia Collins; to his sister, Georgia Blumberg; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Leo Raymond Vrana.
